Securing the Future: A Specialized Look into IoT Security in Smart Warehouses

In the era of rapid technological advancements, the integration of connected devices within the Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a key driver of efficiency, particularly in the realm of modern logistics. The implications of IoT extend across various domains, revolutionizing traceability, optimizing supply chain management, and addressing logistical challenges in smart cities.

But with great power comes great responsibility. Can those systems be operated in a secure manner? Security concerns have been inherent in the IoT landscape since its inception and the expansive nature of IoT poses unique challenges in identifiying security relevant components in the concrete system.

Together with my valued fellow researchers Annika Stempfle, Christian Schlier and Jochen Welte I conducted a specialized review of the state of IoT security in smart warehouses. In our paper we discuss relevant aspects for security in IoT and how they can vary depending on the concrete use case.

We indicate which parts of an IoT application can be specially threatened in the context of smart warehouses and point out further research directions.
